It'll be packed and it's a sketchy area . Safer on the riverfront in front of Jackson Square. That will still be packed. Just don't bring wallets or purses. Keep your cards an ID in front pockets. Algiers is a nice place and safe but if you don't want to drive and stay in the city just be alert of who's around you. Police presence is pretty good on holidays like NYE.
