South Jacksonville is in central Morgan County and is bordered to the north by the city of Jacksonville, the county seat. Illinois Route 267 runs through the village center, leading north as Jacksonville's Main Street 2 miles to the city center and south 6 miles to Woodson. The Interstate 72/U.S. Route 36 freeway runs along the southern edge of the village, with access from Exit 64. I-72/US-36 leads east 35 miles to Springfield, the state capital, and west 64 miles to Hannibal, Missouri.
