You are not supposed to get off the walkway around Stonehenge and definitely are not supposed to climb on or touch the stones. But you are close enough, 15 yards, to feel the power of the stones and get some great photos. We found a historic National Heritage path that parallels the main walking path and I highly recommend it, rather than the official path, if you are walking to the site from the visitors center. I can't include the website in this answer but if you google "stonehenge landscape walk", you will find the site.
