Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned Trump’s freeze on federal funds that state officials say put nearly $2 billion per month for police, health and childcare programs in limbo.

The unilateral decision by President Donald Trump to temporarily freeze federal funding already approved by Congress threatens up to $1.9 billion in monthly funding in Minnesota, Gov. Tim Walz said. The federal Office of Management and Budget issued a two-page memo late Monday announcing a temporary pause on federal grants and loans.

A federal judge has blocked a federal funding freeze ordered by the Trump administration, but not before Minnesota leaders could react to its possible implications.

The governor's office said the freeze threatens $1.8 billion in federal funds usually allocated to the state each month.
