Juan Soto had a chance to deliver tying runs in his much-anticipated Mets debut on Thursday, but he struck out swinging with two outs in the ninth inning to end the Astros' 3-1 win.

Juan Soto's debut game with the New York Mets concluded in unceremonious fashion as Soto struck out to end the game and fall to the Houston Astros. The Astros held a 3-0 lead for much of the game before Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to bring the score to 3-1.

With a chance to make a late splash in his New York Mets debut, Juan Soto came up empty. After signing the biggest contract in baseball history last offseason, the slugger came to bat with two runners aboard and the Mets down by two in the ninth inning Thursday.
