The Terriers stayed within a goal of the mighty Broncos, but into the third period, but three unanswered goals in the third period handed WMU its first national championship.

Boston University fell short in its bid for a sixth National Championship Saturday night in St. Louis, losing to Western Michigan in the Frozen Four title game.

The Broncos will meanwhile celebrate the most successful season in program history. Western Michigan led the nation with 33 wins and won the NCHC regular-season title before making it to the program's first championship game appearance thanks to a double-overtime national semifinal win over Denver.
