The corruption charges, related to the late politician and businessman’s alleged failure to declare his assets, were dropped on Wednesday.

The late Daim Zainuddin and his wife Na’imah Abdul Khalid were charged in January with failing to declare their assets. Daim died on Nov 13 at the age of 86.

Daim Zainuddin was discharged and acquitted of an asset disclosure charge, following his death last week. Today, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court granted the acquittal despite an application by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA).

Naimah Khalid says Daim wanted ‘his day in court’ to clear his name in a case slammed by their family as ‘politically motivated’.

The prosecution today withdrew the charge against the late Tun Daim Zainuddin for failure to comply with a notice to declare his assets, citing his death. According to Free Malaysia Today, deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told the Sessions Court that the charge Section 36(2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act would no longer be pursued.

The court acquitted and discharged Daim of his charge of failing to declare his assets after the prosecution informed the court that it did not wish to pursue the criminal matter, citing Daim's death on Nov 13.
