State-owned power utility Eskom is once again urging all prepaid electricity customers to update their meters immediately to avoid an unexpected loss of electricity after the deadline of November 24.

Eskom's pre-paid customers have less than a week to update their meters before the 24 November deadline. Eskom is urging its 6.9 million pre-paid customers to update their meters promptly to avoid a service disruption. Meters still using KRN1 (Key Revision Number 1) will stop accepting electricity tokens after the deadline.

The power utility said in a statement on Monday night that customers who fail to recode their meters could face replacement costs of up to R12 000.
