If the Trump administration follows through on plans to eliminate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's HIV Prevention Division, the state of Wisconsin could lose nearly $2 million in federal funding.

Carl Schmid, the executive director of the HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute in Washington, told Reuters he had been told by a government agency source that the division might be shut down and that a decision would be made this week on the funding of HIV prevention at the CDC.

A group of more than 100 Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Friday warning about the potential healthcare and financial consequences of his administration’s purported plans to cut federal funding for domestic HIV prevention programs.
