Mumbai, Nov 20 (PTI) Maharashtra recorded a voter turnout of 58.22 per cent till 5 pm on Wednesday in the elections to the 288-member state legislative assembly, with Gadchiroli district logging more than 69 per cent voting, poll officials said.

Maharashtra recorded a 62.05 per cent voter turnout, while Jharkhand saw 68.01 per cent, surpassing the 67.04 per cent turnout in the 2019 assembly elections.

The race is on for 288 seats in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The state is currently ruled by Mahayuti which comprises Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), BJP and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction). The opposition coalition comprises of Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and Congress.

Maharashtra saw 45.53% voter turnout by 3 pm in its 288-member state legislative assembly elections, with Gadchiroli leading at 62.99%. In the Nanded Lok Sabha bypoll, 41.58% participated. Key political players include the BJP-led Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.

The voting booths in the state will allow voters to vote till 6 pm on Wednesday, November 20. This means that barring exceptions made locally, the voting would conclude by 6 pm. The exit polls will be released after 6 pm. All major news outlets including The Free Press Journal, will carry updates about exit polls.

Jharkhand recorded 67.59 per cent voting till 5 p.m., surpassing 67.04 per cent voting in the 2019 Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India said here on Wednesday.
