Most days the median of Bienville Boulevard is just a median, a grassy strip of land dividing the main thoroughfare that runs the inhabited length of Dauphin Island. When a storm pushes a surge up the Gulf it becomes high ground.
Krewe de la Dauphine kicks off Mardi Gras season with parade on Dauphin Island
The first Mardi Gras parade of the season kicked off on Dauphin Island earlier today. Thousands lined the streets on the island for the Krewe de la Dauphine parade. This year’s theme was “KDLD Saves the World” where parade-goers saw some of their favorite Marvel and DC Characters.

Mardi Gras season 2025 begins in Alabama: Scenes from parade on Dauphin Island
The 2025 Mardi Gras season has arrived in the Mobile area, courtesy of the Krewe de la Dauphine. The Dauphin Island parade rolled Saturday, bringing a parade of classic cars, floats, boats, trailer bands and other units to a crowd of thousands occupying the median and shoulders of Bienville Boulevard.
