All 10 constituents of the Nifty IT index were up. Tech Mahindra rose nearly 3 percent and emerged as the top gainer on Nifty 50 after CLSA upgraded it to 'Outperform' from 'Hold' on the back of a recent price correction.

The S&P BSE Sensex lost 33.49 points to end at 84,266.29, while the NSE Nifty50 was down by 13.95 points to close at 25,796.90.

The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Tuesday are trading higher amid volatility, led by overnight gains on the Wall Street. At 10.10 am, the BSE Sensex rose 131 points to 84,431.
