A light snow is forecast to start around 1 a.m. in parts of North Jersey and New York City, with an average of 2 inches falling before the storm moves out at 10 p.m. In Delaware and Philadelphia, the latest forecasts suggest the snow will start around 1 a.m., with as much as 8 inches falling over 24 hours.

The Big Apple could be looking at 1 to 3 inches of snow, but the southern part of the Garden State could be facing 5 to 8 inches.

A major, disruptive winter storm was sweeping across the central U.S. on Sunday, forecasters said, bringing with it a dreaded combination of snow, ice and plunging temperatures. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings from Kansas and Missouri — where blizzard conditions are expected — to New Jersey.

As a deep winter chill begins to take over the northern half of the country, a new major winter storm will move across the U.S. this weekend into early next week.
