As Arctic air and frigid temperatures continue, the next chance for snow in the Chicago area comes Thursday into Friday as part of a winter storm developing in the southern U.S.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Counites under the advisory, including Cook and DuPage counties, can expect 3 to 4 inches of snow with higher amounts of up to 5 inches possible, especially in Lake County, Illinois. High temperatures will be in the 20s with lows in the teens.

Lake effect snow could impact parts of LaPorte and Porter Counties on Wednesday. Light snow is possible Thursday night into Friday, especially near and east of I-55. It was a cold day in Chicago, with highs in the mid-20s and wind chills dropping into the teens.

Winter's icy grip is firmly on Chicagoland, with frigid wind chills and periods of lake-effect snow continuing Monday in the wake of a major winter storm that's sweeping through the Midwest and making its way east.

It's going to be a typically cold early January day around Chicagoland on Tuesday, with high temperatures staying in the mid-20s and wind chills topping out in the teens. Some locations even had wind-chill values below zero early Tuesday morning,

The Chicago area is being impacted by a variety of winter weather to start the week, with advisories in effect and lake-effect snow falling in areas near Lake Michigan.
