Ormond Beach, Fla. – Republican state Sen. Randy Fine won a special election Tuesday to represent Florida's 6th Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Josh Weil and squashing efforts by national Democrats who spent millions of dollars on the race.
Under Perez’s plan, the state sales tax would be cut from 6% to 5.25%. He couched the move as part of an effort to restrain state government spending. The House budget, due out Friday, will be lower than the current spending plan of $118.6 billion, he said.

Republican candidates are projected to win both special elections for U.S. House seats in Florida, though by smaller margins than expected in two GOP-dominated districts. State Sen. Randy Fine is projected by The Associated Press to win in Florida’s 6th Congressional District while the AP projects Jimmy Patronis will win in the 1st District.
NBC News projects victory for the GOP in the seats formerly held by Michael Waltz, who resigned to join the Trump administration, and Matt Gaetz.
