Oracle recently freed J2EE, aka Java EE. Now known as Jakarta EE, enterprise Java's new manager the Eclipse Foundation is revealing its plans for the popular middleware platform.

The foundation expects Eclipse Enterprise for Java (EE4J) project to ship a Java EE 8-compliant project as soon as possible, with a release of the GlassFish application server and related projects.

The Eclipse Foundation plans two releases of the GlassFish Java application server this year, including one that will pass through Eclipse’s new enterprise Java specification process.
