When Mario Lemieux joined the Penguins as the franchise’s savior in 1984, there wasn’t an abundance of ways to watch the team’s games outside of the Pittsburgh area. After all, this was decades before the Internet made virtually every sporting contest on Earth viewable through streaming services.

While Saturday was an afternoon puck drop, it still felt like “A Hockey Night in Pittsburgh” as the Penguins community celebrated the life and legacy of Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Lange, who died on Wednesday.

Lange spent 46 years with the Penguins. Story highlights Mike Lange, longtime Pittsburgh Penguins announcer, died at 76. Lange had a 46-year career with the Penguins. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
