In small groups or with the whole class, students perform actions in the style of an adverb. Teach students that adverbs describe the actions (verb) which makes their writing more interesting.

Japanese adjectives conjugate to become adverbs. We can change I adjectives that end with syllable I, such as HAYAI (early), to adverbs by changing the final I to KU. So, HAYAI becomes HAYAKU.
