Nashville remains on edge in the aftermath of the Antioch High School shooting last month. Why it matters: School safety is dominating conversations at kitchen tables and in the mayor's office following the city's second school shooting in less than two years.

Police said a male student shot two people at the high school on Wednesday morning before turning the gun on himself.

School threats are on the rise after a Jan. 22 shooting left two dead, including the shooter, and one injured at Antioch High School. It's been a little more than a week since 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante was killed and a 17-year-old classmate was injured after another 17-year-old boy opened fire and later shot himself in the school cafeteria,

A 16-year-old female student was killed, another student was wounded, and the shooter—a 17-year-old male student—killed himself, per police.

Two local students were arrested in unrelated cases for making school threats Thursday. In the first case, Dorrian Harp, an 18-year-old student at Hunters Lane High School, allegedly admitted to telling another student in his class on Tuesday that he would shoot up the school the next day.

The Metro Nashville Police Department opted to permanently add a third school resource officer to Antioch High School as students return Tuesday.

Threats against schools and institutions are taken very seriously by the MNPD. Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted.”
