Thousands of teachers from across Colorado will be leaving their classrooms Thursday to rally at the capitol. State lawmakers have to cut more than $1 billion from the budget, and they hope changing how education is funded in the state will help balance the books.

An estimated 2,000 teachers are expected to show up at a Thursday rally hosted by the Colorado Education Association, the state’s largest teacher’s union.
