The two dogs that brutally mauled and killed an 8-year-old boy in a Central Florida neighborhood earlier this month were euthanized on Thursday, according to Volusia County deputies.

Witnesses rushed to help but could not save an 8-year-old boy attacked by two dogs, according to investigators in Florida. It happened around 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Berry’s Ridge subdivision outside DeLand, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Michael Millett, 8, was riding his bike with a friend near DeLand on Jan. 13 when he reportedly stopped to pet the dogs before being brutally attacked and killed, investigators said. The animals were described as a pit bull and a mixed breed dog.

It’s been two weeks since two dogs attacked and killed 8-year-old Michael Millet. Deputies said he was mauled by a pit bull and a mixed-breed dog. The dogs were captured shortly after the attack and spent some time in quarantine.
