LAFD said there were small explosions up to 2 a.m. on Saturday from the night's controlled burn, but none since then. Saturday afternoon, officials said residents can return at 5 p.m. as the area has been declared safe.

The LAPD evacuated 60 homes in the area Friday evening before the controlled burn, while firefighters covered nearby buildings with thermal gel to protect them.

Residents are slowly returning home after a fireworks explosion destroyed part of a home and left a man in critical condition. A mandatory evacuation left more than two dozen families displaced. KTLA's Jennifer McGraw reports on March 22,
