Movie. Building off the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Knuckles miniseries is a largely self-contained affair that mainly focuses on one of the supporting characters from the films.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continues the adventures of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles ... seen a movie design of Shadow, as he did briefly appear at the very end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
