More than half of Alabama’s 67 counties go under a state of emergency today because of the forecast of severe winter weather. Gov. Kay Ivey cited the threat of ice, snow, sleet, freezing rain, and prolonged temperatures below freezing in her proclamation declaring the emergency.

Ivey sent out the proclamation, directing the Alabama National Guard to be ready to be called to duty in the event of the weather event, where some fear the frigid weather, which is predicted to drop into the 20s,
