Kathmandu: The Nepal government on Tuesday said that it may stop issuing no objection certificates to students who wish to study in institutes in Odisha if the situation arising from the death of a student at a Bhubaneswar university is not resolved in a "justifiable and legal way".

The death of a Nepali B-Tech student at KIIT in Bhubaneswar has sparked massive outrage. Nepal’s envoy to India, Shankar Sharma, has urged students to return, stating he is satisfied with the government’s response.

As a university in Odisha was celebrating its three-day annual fest, a student's body was discovered in her hostel room. Within hours, the discovery led to embassy-level talks between two countries.

Nepalese PM Oli also announced that officers from the Nepali embassy in New Delhi had been dispatched to provide counselling to the affected students and ensure their safe return or continued stay at the hostel.
