At noon, the National Weather Service issued wind advisories through 4 a.m. Tuesday in Portland and cities as far south as Eugene. High wind warnings are in effect along most of the Oregon coast, where gusts could reach up to 55 mph in Astoria and 58 mph in Lincoln City.

The NWS in Portland has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northwestern Oregon and southwestern Washington.

Snow, ice and freezing rain are likely to continue impacting roads and schools until a widespread warmup midday Friday across the Willamette Valley.

The Willamette Valley is a long way from the deserts of Arizona and California, but that has not stopped a tiny feathered visitor who normally lives there from paying a rare visit to Oregon. Avid birders in the area reported seeing a Costa’s hummingbird near a Springfield park this winter.

An ice storm warning has been issued for the southern and central Willamette Valley for freezing rain and snow likely to disrupt work, school and travel on Thursday and Friday. Power outages also appear increasingly likely. The warning is in place from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Friday.
