There were plenty of developments Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center as the Flyers lost to the Islanders, 3-0.
Speaking to reporters after the Flyers’ optional morning skate, Scott Laughton said the Flyers “need to get rolling here.” Well, let the good times roll. The Flyers had a wire-to-wire 4-2 win against the New Jersey Devils on Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
What a way for the Islanders to close out January. The New York Islanders took care of business in Philadelphia as they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 for their sixth straight win. Ilya Sorokin turned aside all 25 shots for his third shutout of the season. The Islanders end the month of January with a record of 9-3-0.
Travel really hasn’t been that big of a deal either. In last week’s back-to-back, the Flyers played at the Rangers on Thursday and the Islanders on Friday. That’s only a 30-minute bus ride between venues and they lost both games by a combined score of 9-2.
Scott Laughton was back with the Flyers after being away for a personal family matter and Ryan Poehling returned to the ice in his recovery from a head injury.
Laughton will rejoin the Flyers ahead of Monday's matchup with the Devils after missing three games while attending to a family matter. The 30-year-old Laughton has nine goals and 23 points through 47 contests this season.
The Philadelphia Flyers opened a home-and-home set against the New Jersey Devils with a 4-2 win at Wells Fargo Center on Monday evening.
The Flyers beat the Devils for the second time in 10 days by picking up a 4-2 win Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers have that covered. Looking listless, uninspired and a little lost at times, the orange and black faltered, 3-0, to the Islanders Thursday night in South Philly, falling further back in the hustle for an unexpected playoff spot. It was their third game in five tiring nights.
Tonight, Laughton laid it all on the line and dropped the gloves with New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov in an act of revenge for Tsyplakov injuring Flyers forward Ryan Poehling the last time the two teams met. Laughton scores the TKO victory, but you've got to hand it to Tsyplakov for standing in there and taking his medicine.
The New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers will square off for the third time in two weeks on Thursday night when they reconvene in Philadelphia.
