BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The National Weather Service issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for parts of Western New York. The weather alert went into effect at 7 a.m. Wednesday and runs until 6 p.m. Sunday for Southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

Frigid weekend with more snow on the way

Lake-effect snow is currently falling north of the thruway, in central to north-central Oneida County, early today. Near whiteout conditions are possible inside some of these snow bands. The snow looks to somewhat consistently stay in place for much of the day today,

The LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING has been extended for Ashtabula, Lake, and Geauga Co. until 7a.m. Sunday. Several other counties will be under a LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING or WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY Friday morning through Sunday morning.
