The earthquake, which originated southwest of the Cayman Islands, was detected by a seismograph in Sonora, around 50 miles south of downtown Louisville.
This was the third earthquake recorded in South Carolina in 2025 after 30 were confirmed there last year, according to the USGS.
The quake struck at 6:23 p.m. local time in the middle of the sea and had a depth of 10 kilometers, the USGS said.
