With much of Western North Carolina under moderate drought or abnormally dry conditions, wildfires are burning in the region.

The largest fires in Western North Carolina were the Deep Woods and Black Cove fires in Polk County not far from the S.C.

As of the latest March 24 evening update, maps indicated that one fire in Polk County had hopped the Green River. Firefighters from across the nation are responding.

At least eight active wildfires are burning across both states on Monday, some of which have prompted evacuations.
