A storm with a confirmed tornado moved through Carmel, downing a large radio tower and damaging at least one building.

A powerful, wide-reaching spring storm is threatening parts of the central and eastern US, with a life-threatening outbreak of long-lived and strong tornadoes possible in some areas. Follow here for live updates.

Tornado season typically lasts from March through June, according to the National Weather Service, and Kentucky is bound to see several tornadoes each year. Weather data tracked by The Courier Journal showed at least 66 tornadoes were recorded in Kentucky in 2024.

At 3:47 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning in effect until 4:15 a.m. for Greene and Washington counties.

The warning was in place for Dale and Henry counties.

On Thursday at 4:59 p.m. an updated tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 5:30 p.m. for Lauderdale County.

An updated tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 5:07 a.m. in effect until 10 a.m. The watch is for Johnson, Wyandotte, Jackson, Linn, Miami, Adair, Bates, Carroll,
