If the Trump administration follows through on plans to eliminate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's HIV Prevention Division, the state of Wisconsin could lose nearly $2 million in federal funding.

The discussion of cuts to the Division of HIV Prevention, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, comes amid the Trump administration’s efforts to cut federal spending and is considered part of a larger effort to restructure not only the U.S. Department for Health and Human Services, but the entire federal government.

Carl Schmid, the executive director of the HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute in Washington, told Reuters he had been told by a government agency source that the division might be shut down and that a decision would be made this week on the funding of HIV prevention at the CDC.
