Illnesses linked to slivered onions on McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers expand to 14 states, federal officials say.

This week, the company completed the return of Quarter Pounder burgers, with slivered onions, to all restaurant menus nationwide.

McDonald’s is investing $100 million to bring customers back to stores after an outbreak of E. coli food poisoning tied to onions on the fast-food giant’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers.

A memo seen by CNN said $35 million is being spent on marketing, with another $65 million going to McDonald's franchisees worst hit by the outbreak.

McDonald's says it will invest more than $100 million to boost restaurant sales and speed up recovery in the wake of the E. coli outbreak in October tied to slivered onions. The restaurant chain plans to devote the majority of that money towards restaurants in the hardest hit states.

The fast-food giant is investing $65 million in hard-hit franchisees and paying for $35 million worth of marketing efforts.

The chain is dropping $100 million dollars with the goal of getting you back, that's what. But don't get too excited... Well, about that. McDonald's want to get you back, yes, but not by sharing the wealth.
