The European Commission has ordered Meta to “bring the conduct effectively to an end,” but didn’t specify what actions should be taken. Meta was also hit with a record-breaking $1.3 billion fine by the EU last year for transferring the Facebook data of EU citizens to the US.

Meta is in hot water in Europe once again. The European Competition Commission issued the Facebook and Instagram parent company with a fine on Thursday to the tune of 798 million euros ($843 million) over "abusive practices.

The EU has handed Meta a €798 million fine for allegedly tying Facebook Marketplace with Facebook, giving it an undue advantage.

The commission opened its investigation of Meta in June 2021, inquiring into the company's collection of Facebook user data, which allows it to target consumers on Marketplace. (Such data collection was responsible for more than 99 percent of Meta's $133 billion revenue in 2023,
