Nineteen Republican attorneys general called on Costco Wholesale Corp. to end its workforce diversity policies after the bulk retailer became one of the few companies to defend its practice. The state officials,

Led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, the Republican officials instructed Costco to let them know within 30 days whether it would get rid of its DEI policies or explain why not. Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Within 30 days, please either notify us that Costco has repealed its DEI policies or explain why Costco has failed to do so. We look forward to your response.”

Washington's attorney general fired back at a group of Republican attorneys general for "weaponizing" the government to put pressure on Costco to ditch its DEI policies.

DEI policies, companies such as Target and McDonald’s have already pulled away from their previous commitments. Not Costco, which is now in the legal crosshairs.

In a letter to Costco's CEO, 19 Republican state attorneys general urged the company to end the DEI policies that it had publicly supported.
