Concacaf has launched an investigation into an incident in which LAFC defender Sergi Palencia allegedly used a derogatory term toward Rapids defender Chidozie Awaziem.

CONCACAF has opened an investigation into a derogatory comment allegedly made by Los Angeles FC defender Sergi Palencia toward Chidozie Awaziem of the Colorado Rapids during their CONCACAF Champions Cup match on Tuesday night.

"As players, we need to know that these standards are upheld and that we’re protected on the field,” says Chidozie Awaziem.

An investigation has been launched by CONCACAF after Rapids player Chidozie Awaziem accused LAFC's Sergi Palencia of using a derogatory term during their match. The incident paused the game briefly and sparked reactions from both clubs,

The alleged incident took place late in Colorado's 1-0 loss, with Awaziem seemingly pleading with the referee to take action.
