Connor McDavid became the fourth-fastest NHL player to reach 1,000 points, scoring early in the second period in the Edmonton Oilers' 3-2 overtime victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

With the goal, the 27-year-old became the 99th player to reach 1,000 points and the fourth-fastest to get there, accomplishing the feat in 659 games (341 goals, 660 assists). Only Wayne Gretzky (424 games), Mario Lemieux (513), and Mike Bossy (656) did it faster.

McDavid became the 999th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in NHL history. Only legends Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mike Bossy have reached the mark faster. The Oilers star has lived up to the billing that was advertised for him when he first came into the league as the first overall pick in the 2015 draft.
