Sand Island Light, also known as Sand Island Lighthouse (and historical light station), is a decommissioned lighthouse located at the southernmost point of the state of Alabama, United States, near Dauphin Island, at the mouth of Mobile Bay, Alabama, United States.

Sep 4, 2020 · The Sand Island Light, a simple brick tower located three miles from the Gulf Coast, was built on a spit of land that was small to begin with, only about 400 acres.

Built by Winslow Lewis in 1838, this lighthouse rose to a height of fifty-five feet and was fitted with fourteen lamps backed by sixteen-inch reflectors. Lewis completed the project under budget, returning $1,101 to the government.

Jul 23, 2018 · Historic lighthouse still standing tall. Took a trip with Captain Tommy Rachel of Gulf Boat Tours to see this lighthouse which is slowly losing the battle with the sea. The only way to visit this lighthouse is by boat although it can be seen from Fort Morgan on a clear day.
