And we couldn't even use the engine developed for the C-5, because it's a high-winged, cumbersome, slow airplane. That engine didn't have enough power to fly the .85 Mach number of the 747.

Boeing decided not to waste all the engineering studies etc. they had done making their presentation, and used that knowledge to build the 747.
