Apr 17, 2021 · The OP has correctly identified the manufacture date of his stove as October 1999. From the mid 1960s dates were stamped on the tabs of the fuel tank. Sometime in the 1970s they started stamping the bottom of the stove case. Tank and stove dates are often mismatched by several months or even a year because of production methods.

I suppose it might be OK to transport the stove with the canister attached, but I would pad it or put it into a stuff sack to keep it from rattling. Stacking it separately allows me get a few more things inside.

May 4, 2021 · Tent/camping stoves are a lot lighter and thinner than a house type stove. So it'll get hotter on the surface, hold a fire a shorter time, and using it daily will probably burn it out fairly soon. In other words, I wouldn't buy one for the job, but if you had one already and wanted to use it that's a different story.
