This gecko is incredibly small, reaching just over 2 cm excluding its tail, and is part of a genus of lizards (Lepidoblepharis) known as the scaly-eyed geckos. Species from this genus of dwarf geckos are distributed across Central and South America, and diverged from all other lizards more than 70 million years ago.

Lepidoblepharis miyatai is a species of gecko, a lizard in the family Sphaerodactylidae. The species is endemic to Colombia. The specific name, miyatai, is in honor of American herpetologist Kenneth Ichiro Miyata (1951–1983).

She is studying for a Ph.D. in environmental and rural studies from Pontifix Javeriana University.

The Colombian Dwarf Gecko has the remarkable ability to detach and regenerate its tail when threatened, allowing it to escape from predators unharmed.

[ 3 ][ 4 ] The majority of the species in the genus Gonatodes are diurnally active, scansorial, and sexually dichromatic, with adult body size (snout–vent length) ranging from 28 to 65 mm (1.1 to 2.6 in) for known species.
