A 1,500-horsepower B-B diesel locomotive produced by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between February 1949 and Decemeber 1953. Although originally promoted by EMD as a freight-hauling unit, the F7 was also used in passenger service hauling on the Rio Grande. D&RGW F7 5724 at Salida, Colorado on August 25, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1952 (c/n 16522) on EMD Order 3149, this locomotive was sold to the Alaska Railroad becoming ARR 1526 in May 1970 and was traded to EMD in 1978.
