Food 2030 sets out a vision for research and innovation that covers the entire food system, linking multiple sectors from primary production (from land and water) to food processing, retail and distribution, packaging, waste and recycling, food services and consumption.

Our goal is to break down silos and unite projects, partnerships, and networks working towards a food system that is fair, healthy, and sustainable. Through collaboration, we can amplify our collective impact and drive meaningful change.

Nov 10, 2016 · Given that food systems - growing food and feed, making and transporting food, cooking, eating and throwing food away - accounts for just under a third of greenhouse gas emissions, food alone has the potential to use up the entire Paris agreement’s carbon budget.

FOOD 2030 is the EU research and innovation policy response to the recent international policy developments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and COP21 commitments.

The world’s food systems, which millions of people around the world rely on for nourishment, jobs and economic opportunities, are no longer fit for purpose. Hunger is on the rise, healthy diets are unaffordable for the world’s poorest people, and 30% of food produced is lost or wasted.

The report sets out 11 pathways for action where research and innovation can concretely deliver co-benefits related to nutrition, climate, circularity and communities, at multiple levels: from local to international.

Key initiatives will include co-creating strategies to overcome existing barriers (“lock-ins”) and building sustainable food value chains, mobilizing impact investors, encouraging the adoption of new technologies, and tracking the ongoing transformation of the food system.

Jan 3, 2025 · On September 16, 2015, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and EPA announced the U.S. 2030 Food Loss and Waste Reduction goal, the first-ever domestic goal to reduce food loss and waste. The goal seeks to cut food loss and waste in half by the year 2030.

The FOOD2030 Project Collaboration Network – led by the University of Copenhagen (UCPH ) unites European, national and regional projects, partnerships and networks to drive meaningful change in our food systems.
