The PRR E44 was an electric, rectifier-equipped locomotive built by General Electric for the Pennsylvania Railroad between 1960 and 1963. The PRR used them for freight service on the Northeast Corridor .

Conrail E44 4414 at Wilmington, Delaware on an unknown day in May 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built by GE in September of 1962 as PRR #4444, the unit survived the PC merger only to land on the CR roster and lose its job when CR de-electrified the freight line. Now it sits in the yard with its unemployed sisters like CR 4414.

The E44 was the last locomotive model the Pennsylvania Railroad ordered for its electrified lines, but even by the time they were completed in the early 1960's the electrified lines were doomed for freight.
