Apr 27, 2023 · Independent sites mention that 5.56 ammo should never be fired through a .223 gun, whereas the reverse (.223 fired through a gun chambered for 5.56) is okay, or at least not dangerous. But the HK Operator's Manual for the SL8 treats the two cartridges as interchangeable in this gun.
