HMS Kent, pennant number 54, was a County-class heavy cruiser built for the Royal Navy in the late 1920s. She was the lead ship of the Kent subclass. After completion the ship was sent to the China Station where she remained until the beginning of the Second World War, aside from a major refit in 1937–38.

HMS Kent (1660) was a 46-gun fourth rate launched in 1652 as the Kentish, renamed Kent in 1660, and wrecked in 1672. HMS Kent (1679) was a 70-gun third rate launched in 1679, rebuilt in 1699 and 1724, and broken up in 1744.

KENT-Class cruiser ordered under the 1924-25 Estimates from HM Dockyard, Chatham and laid down on 15th November 1924. The ship was launched on 16th March 1926 as the 8th RN ship to bear the name, introduced in 1852 for a 40 gun ship and last used by a 1901 cruiser sold in 1920.

Sep 28, 2022 · The Royal Navy’s Duke-class Type 23 frigate HMS Kent has completed weapon and naval combat tests after undergoing maintenance and upgrades. The assessment prepares the frigate to join future deployments and drills, such as the Joint Warrior military exercise in Scotland next month.

Kent served on the China Station with the 5th Cruiser Squadron from completion until 1939, her reconstruction being carried out in 1937/38. Her initial wartime duties were anti-raider patrols in the East Indies, before moving into the Indian Ocean to cover troop convoys in 1940.
