In Depth | Haumea – NASA Solar System Exploration
Dwarf planet Haumea is a member of a group of objects that orbit in a disc-like zone beyond the orbit of Neptune called the Kuiper Belt. This distant realm is populated with thousands of miniature icy worlds which formed early in the history of our solar system about 4.5 billion years ago.

NASA Supported Research Helps Redefine Solar System's Edge
Mar 26, 2014 · These images show the discovery of 2012 VP113 taken about 2 hours apart on Nov. 5, 2012. The motion of 2012 VP113 stands out compared to the steady state background of stars and galaxies.
Planet Compare - NASA Solar System Exploration
Jan 9, 2025 · NASA’s real-time science encyclopedia of deep space exploration. Our scientists and far-ranging robots explore the wild frontiers of our solar system.
Saturn and Its Largest Moon Reflect Their True Colors
Aug 28, 2012 · Upon Cassini’s arrival at Saturn eight years ago, Saturn’s northern winter hemisphere was an azure blue. Now that winter is encroaching on the planet’s southern hemisphere and summer on the north, the color scheme is reversing: blue is tinting the southern atmosphere and is fading from the north.
Radar Image Shows Titan's Surface Live and in Color
Nov 4, 2004 · Saturn's moon Titan shows a sharp contrast between its smooth and rough edges in a new false-color radar image. Titan's surface lies beneath a thick coat of hazy clouds, but Cassini's radar instrument can peer through to show finer surface features.
Jupiter's Stormy North – NASA Solar System Exploration
Jan 25, 2018 · This color-enhanced image was taken on Dec. 16, 2017 at 9:47 a.m. PST (12:47 p.m. EST), as Juno performed its tenth close flyby of Jupiter. At the time the image was taken, the spacecraft was about 5,600 miles (8,787 kilometers) from the tops of the clouds of the planet at a latitude of 38.4 degrees north.
New Spin On Saturn's Rotation - NASA Solar System Exploration
Jul 28, 2009 · New meteorological data from NASA's Cassini spacecraft indicates the value for Saturn's rotation period could be more than 5 minutes shorter than previously believed - and that Saturn is more like its larger neighbor Jupiter than previously considered.
Ceres Bright Spots Seen Closer Than Ever
May 20, 2015 · NASA's Dawn mission captured a sequence of navigational images of dwarf planet Ceres from a distance of 4,500 miles (7,200 kilometers) on May 16, 2015.
One of the most unusual KBOs is Haumea, part of a collisional . family orbiting the Sun, the first found in the Kuiper Belt. The parent body, Haumea, apparently collided with another object that was roughly half its size. The impact blasted large icy chunks away and sent Haumea reeling, causing it to spin end-over-end every four hours.
