A trainer ID ending in 7 does not have rare trees in Azalea town. Rare trees should be the ones corresponding to the last digit of your trainer ID. I'm going to check using a map editor if perhaps the layout for Crystal Ilex Forest is different.

if you wanna try definitely start with gba to give you knowledge on a few things like collisions and how different levels work as well as script editing. once you've got a good foothold on that you can try out map modeling for nds but making a full game with this is gonna be difficult right now. most you can do is get a head start on route designing because there isn't a super convenient way ...
