Zinc - Wikipedia
Zinc is a chemical element with the symbol Zn and atomic number 30. It is a slightly brittle metal at room temperature and has a shiny-greyish appearance when oxidation is removed. It is the first element in group 12 (IIB) of the periodic table .
Unlocking Quasi-Solid-State Anode-Free Zinc Metal Batteries …
Mar 4, 2025 · This inhomogeneous initial Zn nucleation induces the uneven electric field and Zn ion flux, promoting dendrite formation and lowering the Zn plating/stripping CE, causing the rapid capacity decay or even failure of AFZMBs.
Tailoring the metal electrode morphology via electrochemical …
Jun 27, 2022 · By coupling electrochemical and optical microscopy measurements, we demonstrate that an initial zinc deposition on the metal electrode allows homogeneous stripping and plating processes during prolonged cycling in symmetric Zn||Zn cell.
Structural insights into the calcium-coupled zinc export of
Apr 26, 2024 · Human zinc transporter 1 (hZnT1) is a plasma membrane–localized Zn 2+ exporter belonging to the ZnT family, and its functional aberration is associated with multiple diseases. Here, we show that hZnT1 works as a Zn 2+ /Ca 2+ exchanger.
Revealing the missing puzzle piece of concentration in regulating Zn ...
First, initial Zn electrodeposition is thermodynamically controlled epitaxial growth, whereas with rapid depletion of the zincate ion, the rapidly rising concentration overpotential transcends the thermodynamic influence to kinetic control.
Coupling stable isotope analyses and X-ray absorption …
Feb 1, 2025 · Calcite plays a pivotal role in regulating the mobility and fate of zinc (Zn) in natural environments. Despite its significance, the mechanism of Zn sorption on calcite surfaces, particularly the transitional dynamics from surface adsorption to precipitation, remains unclear.
Redistribution of Zn during transformation of ferrihydrite: Effects …
Sep 20, 2019 · Redistribution of Zn during transformation of ferrihydrite was examined with different initial Zn concentrations. Increase in Zn retards the transformation rate drastically. A Zn/Fe ratio of >~1 in a system forms an intermediate phase (Zn-bearing maghemite) and changes the transformation process.
Three Zn-doped InSb crystals were directionally solidified under microgravity conditions at the International Space Station (ISS) Alpha. The distribution of the Zn was measured using SIMS. A short diffusion-controlled transient, typical for systems with k>1 was demonstrated.
Unraveling chemical origins of dendrite formation in zinc-ion …
Oct 3, 2024 · Our findings reveal that in 50 mM ZnSO 4, the initiation of moss/whisker dendrites is chemically controlled, while their continued growth over extended cycles is kinetically governed. The...
Highly Reversible Zn Metal Anodes Enabled by Increased …
Jul 6, 2023 · The Zn-Zn cell could achieve a Zn utilization rate of 80% at areal capacity of 20 mAh cm−2. Zn-LiMn2O4 full cell with Na-L additive delivers improved stability than that with blank electrolyte. This study also provides insight into the regulation of nucleation overpotential to achieve homogeneous Zn deposition.
