JBOD vs. RAID - Enterprise Storage Forum
Apr 12, 2021 · Both JBOD and RAID have their strengths and weaknesses in data storage – and both have their advocates among storage professionals. To be sure, there are JBOD offers a fairly straightforward and inexpensive way to archive huge amounts of data. In contrast, RAID systems can be complex to design, yet offer key security advantages.
Is RAID 0 or JBOD better for home media server? [closed]
RAID 0 writes into to each drive in little stripes of 64kb (or whatever size you configure), alternating drives as it goes. JBOD most commonly concatenates one disk to the other, so the beginning of the logical drive is one physical drive, and the 2nd half is the other physical drive.
What is the difference between a HBA card and a RAID card?
Jul 31, 2014 · A RAID card is a disk-specific, higher-end evolution of a disk HBA. A pure RAID card hides the single devices from the main bus/CPU, exporting a virtual device with a specific RAID personality (ie: RAID0, RAID1, ecc).
ceph - Three Single drive Raid 1 vs JBOD - Server Fault
Nov 2, 2021 · RAID 1 is used to reduce downtime in case a drive(s) dies whereas RAID 0 is to increase performance and JBOD is just to use the storage space of several drives as one. You need to have an understanding of these concepts and what best fits what you are trying to do before you proceed with any configuration.
kafka cluster RAID vs JBOD with new hardware and kafka versions
usually we are installing the kafka machine/s disks as RAID 10 ( as confluent recommended ) but as maybe some of you know Kafka disks, can configured as Jbod ( its mean each single disk will defined in logs dir, as opposite to RAID10 that all disks are …
PERC H740p single-disk RAID 0 versus JBOD/Pass …
Mar 21, 2021 · That said, your controller supports eHBA mode which, in turn, should pass unconfigured disks as non-RAID disks to the OS. From the docs, it seems that eHBA mode can be used concurrently for RAID0/1/10 arrays and non-RAID disks. Try passing the ZFS disks as non-RAID drives and please report back.
JBOD: any system that can do RAID-0 can do JBOD?
Jul 19, 2010 · JBOD is 'Just a Bunch Of Disks' and is essentially non-RAID. It's essentially using the RAID controller as just a pure disk controller. I believe that ZFS does its own internal storage management, which is why this is a valid thing to do with ZFS. Note that 'valid' is not the same as 'ideal'; it depends a bit on how much redundancy you want.
Differences between HW RAID and ZFS - Server Fault
Feb 11, 2021 · I'll set the Smart array to carve out a 100GB RAID 60 volume for the OS and the remainder to the data volume. ZFS will be installed on top of the RAID block device presented to the OS (e.g. a single VDEV ZFS zpool) The reasoning for this design is that HPE SmartArray hardware RAID is reliable and consistent in operation.
2 JBOD enclosures 1 RAID controller vs 2 RAID enclosures
For performance you want as many spindles in your volume groups as you can get. That suggests the RAID card + 2 JBOD enclosure route. However, if scale is more of a problem than performance, the Card + 2 RAID enclosure route will provide better scaling.
With an LSI SAS 12G controller in JBOD personality, what exactly is ...
Dec 29, 2020 · I have understood the differences between the JBOD and the RAID personalities, but there is another related setting which I currently can't make sense of. This setting is called behavior mode and is only available when the controller is in JBOD personality. In JBOD personality, the behavior mode can be set to JBOD or None. Could somebody please ...
